Laurel Mississippi is truly one of the great jewels of the south. The outside world is really only just now starting to get a glimpse of what we that live here often take for granted. Much of this recent recognition has come as a result of Laurel being the centerpiece of the Hit HGTV show “Home Town” hosted by local husband and wife, Ben & Erin Napier. When the first episode aired, it was the 2nd most popular episode to air out of any show in all of HGTV history.
If you are visiting Laurel for the first time, some of the great things to check out would be the Lauren Rogers Museum of Art, then maybe stop by Lee’s Coffee and Tea or Sweet Somethings Bakery for a break, be sure to tour the rest of what downtown has to offer while you’re there (this could be an all day event in itself), then take a pleasant drive through our city streets lined with live oaks and beautiful older homes. Finally, stopping by the Knight Butcher for some of their famous meats would be the perfect top-off to the end of a beautiful day exploring Laurel.
While Laurel is a really great place to visit, it is an even better place to live.
While the attractions of downtown are indeed enjoyable, the home’s themselves often bring back memories of the art of Norman Rockwell from the old Saturday Evening Post. Laurel and it’s homes are experiencing what many are calling a renaissance period of rebirth. Entire streets that were once not far from derelict are becoming vibrant and lively once again. This is spurned by the will of the people of Laurel to see it return to its previous splendor.
The county is a great place to live too, but many, whose parents live in the county, want to see the city regain its beauty and have decided to find a fixer-upper, move into town, and become part of the solution. A young couple or two doing this really wouldn’t make much of an impact, but it has really caught on, and has the momentum at this point to see itself through to completion to where Laurel is sure to exceed even its former days of glory.
